How does a session look?
-
Thai Yoga is generally practiced on the floor using a thickly padded futon mat with both client and practitioner dressed in comfortable clothing allowing for ease of movement and flexibility. No oils or creams are used. Typically a session lasts about 1 hour.
The practitioner uses his or her thumbs, palms, elbows, knees and feet to apply a combination of acupressure, gentle rocking and twisting, joint and spine mobilizations and assisted yoga stretches. Using bodyweight, and a steady, meditative rhythm, Thai yoga looks and feels like a graceful dance between giver and receiver. The practitioner puts the client’s body into assisted yoga postures, directing the intensity of the stretching and pressure points. This delivers a much deeper result than an individual practicing yoga would be able to achieve. It’s like having yoga done to you, receiving all the benefits without the effort. Movements are flowing and harmonious, creating a deeply soothing yet energizing effect for both the practitioner and client.
